Possibly the greatest defender to wear a Chelsea shirt in history, John Terry surprised many a Blues fan by refusing to hang up his boots in their totality following his exit from the club, instead, the centre-half has opted to sign for Championship side Villa ahead of yet another Premier League charge.
Whilst it was clear to many a Premier League spectator that Terry’s 36-year-old legs were clearly shot during his brief camoes last season, Villa never-the-less seem overjoyed at the prospect of the former England captain joining their ranks. After an unremarkable Championship season last term, Terry’s experience may still pay dividends ahead of a long ardous season.
Saying that, the Villa PR team have done themselves no favours with this social media based stunt.
Mocking up a WhatsApp conversation involving the seemingly never scoring striker Gabby Agbonlahor as well the club’s most legendary defenders, Martin Laursen, Olof Mellberg and Paul McGrath, John Terry shuts the conversation down as the Birmingham born forward comments that he’s “got to be the best defender we’ve ever had”.

One for the anti moden football brigade right there.
Away from the trappings of social media, the trophy-laden former Chelsea star showed his appreciation that Villa were willing to take a punt on him.
“I am delighted to join Aston Villa,” he told the club’s official website.
“It’s a club I have admired from afar for many years – there are fantastic facilities at Bodymoor Heath, Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums in the country and there’s a good group of players here, with an experienced and successful manager in Steve Bruce.
“I can’t wait to get started now and look to help the squad achieve something special this season.”
