London giants and perennial Premier League title contenders are believed to be gearing up for a busy summer transfer window once the season comes to a close as they look for a striker to replace their unsettled goal-scorer Diego Costa.
The 28-year-old Costa only has 18 months left to run in his current contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit and rumours abound that he could leave the club at the first opportunity. Indeed, Costa was thought to be on his way out of Chelsea last month, after it was revealed he was keen to follow the cash at the Chinese Super League.
Costa’s insistent interest in forcing a move away from London made manager Antonio Conte lose faith in the striker, and the two were caught in a row in recent weeks. While Conte and Costa have apparently made up now, it is believed that the Spanish international is still keen to seek a transfer in the summer.
As a reply, Chelsea are now readying themselves for a hectic schedule once the transfer window re-opens in June. According to the Telegraph, the club are now eyeing potential replacements for the striker, apart from other players, which include a full-back and a central defender.
When it comes to strikers, Chelsea have been linked with quite a few but here are three potential targets that could fit their fancy.
Moussa Dembele (Celtic)
In his run with previous clubs, Antonio Conte has not shied away from signing young players with immense potential and talent – case in point was his signing of Paul Pogba when he was still Juventus boss. In that line, 20-year-old French striker Moussa Dembele certainly fits the bill. Indeed, the young centre-forward is having a fantastic campaign with Celtic thus far, scoring 20 goals in 38 matches. Such clinical accuracy in scoring goals would no doubt be welcome at Stamford Bridge come next season.
Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid)
While much of the interest for the second Frenchman in this list has come from Premier League rivals Manchester United, Chelsea have also been linked in snapping up Antoine Griezmann in recent months. A player with an eye for goal, the prolific 25-year-old has been phenomenal for Los Rojiblancos this season, scoring 15 goals and notching seven assists across all competitions so far. Griezmann has the agility, the flair, and the lethal touch – he would prove to be a massive signing for any club, including Chelsea.
Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is another player Antonio Conte is thought to be keeping tabs on, and no one can certainly blame the Italian tactician for doing so. Morata has been an imposing figure for Los Blancos this season, scoring 10 goals and tallying 4 assists in 27 appearances over-all so far. A clinical goalscorer standing at 6’2”, Morata is the quintessential target man – making him one of the most ideal replacements for the commanding Diego Costa.
