Conte Adamant in Keeping Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois Away from Madrid Clutches

Chelsea’s Italian tactician Antonio Conte has reiterated that he has no plans of letting go of first-team goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois amid rampant rumours that the Belgian is on his way to Real Madrid.

The iconic ten-time Champions League winners have been hit by a transfer ban back in January 2016 by FIFA, which will see them unable to sign any players when the window re-opens in a few days – but that has not stopped them from planning potential signings in the summer of next year.

One of the players thought to be in Los Blancos’ crosshairs is Courtois, who has largely impressed with his fine form for Chelsea this season. Sure enough, the Belgian international has only conceded 11 goals in all of his 18 games this season, keeping 11 clean sheets.

Conte has heaped praise on Courtois, telling Italian sports outlet Tutto Mercato: “He is the best goalkeeper in the world.”

But the Chelsea boss has given a hands-off warning to potential suitors, saying: “He is a complete goalkeeper, he is a role model, and he will remain a player for us.”

The Premier League giants may well be keen on keeping their shot-stopper but Courtois has had more experience playing in Spain, albeit for Real Madrid rivals Atletico. Whether this discourages the Belgian from moving to the Santiago Bernabeu, however, remains to be seen.

Courtois has a contract with Chelsea which is set to expire in 2019.
